W.E Vine, Expository Commentary on Isaiah, [1997], 6 Each description is set in contrast to what God had designed them to bbe. They are
(a) a "sinful nation"; the Lord had said "ye shall be unto Me ... a holy nation" (Ex 19:6)
(b) "a people laden with iniquity"; God had chosen them to be "a peculiar people unto Himself (a people for His own possession) (Deut 14:2)
(c) "a seed of evildoers"; God had made them the "seed of Abraham" (Je 41:8, of Isaac, Gen 21:12, of Jacob, Jes 45:19)
(d) "children that deal corruptly"; the Lord had declared to them "ye are the children of the Lord, your God" (Deut 14:1)
...
they had sinned in speech, and that against the Holy One of Israel (a title which is especially connected with Isaiah's prophecies, see also 5:19, 24; 10:20; 12:6; 29:19; 30:11, 12, 15; 31:1; 37:23; 41:14, 16, 20etc., and finally, 60:9); as the Holy One He was Israel's Sanctifier, and they should have sanctified themselves in response.
, [], John F Hobbins, The Great Arraignment; The opening diatribe of the book of Isaiah (1:2-20) is remarkable for its searing rhetoric, yet it concludes by offering a return to prosperity should the people and leaders of Judah heed the word of their God. The speech begins with a call to heaven and earth to act as witnesses and a summary brief against the nation (verses 2-3). It ends with an appeal to reach a settlement and a conditional offer of rehabilitation (verses 18-20).
Anders: getergd, veracht. 18. Te weten, van den Heere; Ezech.14:5.
